The head.

This week we started in Zbrush with head sculpting. First making a skull then bildning the muscle structure and later the skin.
The models where then uv mapped and textured in Zbrush. Also going through the processes off the Zremesher and exporting maps.

I'm interested in learning more about shaders so I followed this to setup a skin shader in Maya:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1v6OWgaESkc
and downloaded the alShaders from:
http://www.anderslanglands.com
and plugged in the exported maps from Zbrush and made a fast roughness map in Photoshop.
In Maya I used a 3 point light setup and then made the background and changed some values in Photoshop to get back some contrast that was lost.
Things that I want to improve and learn more about is the camera when rendering. This was the only angel that looked decent, could also be problems with the structure of my sculpture. And more shaders, more real time shaders as well. Se if I can replicate it in Unreal maybe.

First week of year 2.

First whole week in school.
Working on getting some habits down and start with some kind of regular routine.
This week have been all about dynamics where I wrote a python scripts to help out with some paint weight flooding. Today it ended with some warm up in Zbrush for the coming weeks.

So to warm up I sculpted a raven and then did a clay material in Substance designer.

The render is done i Iray, where I tried a wet and dry clay.

Lava flow

Mmm I do like to paint lava. There is something with this hot, dangerous and slow flowing liquid that talks to me a day like this.

Unravel

Here is a watercolor painting on around 28x38cm 300g paper.
The motive is Yarny for the #unravel game. It was briefly exhibited at Malmö stats bibliotek alongside more work from students at my school.

Latest 3d course

Here all my assignments from the intermediate 3d course.
This is the first  3d course were we are not following a book page by page.

We started with a lowpoly character:
With 500 tris I still wanted a lot of accessories to break up the silhouette.

Then went over to a modular landscape:
I made a lot of small pieces to be able to break the scene up a lot.
I had a lot of problems with shader fx and doing the spec/gloss materials, but
learned a lot.

Then something portable:
I went with a flintlock pistol that should be more Scandinavian.
I went spec/gloss on this as well.

Then we ended with a character from a concept done by another student.
Not really pleased with the character texturing, Even do I only spent 1 day
on the landscape I could have used that to texture her more.
But I got a bit carried way with that I could use PBR rough/metallic here.
This is rendered in Maya with shader fx using kostas PBR shader.
You can find it at : http://www.kostas.se/

Gray

A lot of gray outside and a lot off gray meshes in 3d.
Here are some paintings done after school to do something else in gray.

School assignments.

I haven't uploaded so much from school because I don't think its ready.
Its not really good anyways and there is to much improvements to be done.
We have really tight deadlines like 1-3 days so it really differs in quality to much.
Its just training exorcises.

Well, these are just some off the excuses I have to not post things.

But I think my blog actually is for that type of work.
So that there is a record of what I have been doing, and what I am thinking.
It might get me to finish more off the paintings.
It might also reduce the fear to put things on the internet that really should be but in a folder and collect dust instead.
Just writing more in general to see the improvements in that regard as well.

We will see.

So here are some of the work from the introduction to 2d course:
